A Prayer for Veterans

Posted by Kathy on Nov 11, 2015 in Military | 0 Comments

Heavenly Father, I lift up to you all the Veterans of the Armed Forces. The men and women who gave unselfishly Serving 24/7 365 days a year For the freedoms this country holds dearly. When they feel lost and completely alone, I pray they sense your presence always near. In the nights when anxiety and nightmares linger, Help them remember they have nothing to fear. If they start to question why they’re still alive, Gently guide...

On Terrible Advice from Really Successful People

Posted by Jocelyn Green on Sep 30, 2015 in Journal | 20 Comments

Recently I sat down with a really, really successful publishing editor who gave me some advice for my writing career. It was terrible advice. The worst ever. If I didn't already have ten books published and several national awards, I would have been crushed. As it was, however, I was just stunned. So stunned in fact, she cocked her head at me and said, "Are you OK?"

I wasn't, at the moment. What she had told me to do went against my entire purpose, and against my nature, and against my integrity. She told me in no uncertain terms that I...

151 Years Ago: Sherman Defends Forced Evacuation of Atlanta

Posted by Jocelyn Green on Sep 12, 2015 in | 2 Comments
General Sherman, leaning on breach of gun, and staff at Federal Fort 7 outside Atlanta.

Mayor James Calhoun and two city councilmen urged the Union general to rescind the forced evacuation. Some residents were sick, poor, pregnant, the city fathers said, and the South was already overcrowded as it was, resulting in homelessness for those without family to take them in. Sherman’s response to the men was widely published by newspapers both North and South, and passages from it came to be recognized as readily as the Gettysburg...

Because I lived in DC during the 9-11-01 terrorist attacks, the anniversary holds special meaning for me.  It was my great honor  to gather several stories from others who experienced that day in a personal way and include them in Stories of Faith and Courage from the Home Front. Today I’d like to share with you a short but profound excerpt....

Behind the Scenes: Snapshots of Inspiration

Posted by Jocelyn Green on Jul 31, 2015 in | 9 Comments

It's been a busy summer! Kimberly Drew and I have been hard at work on the devotional book for parents of children with special needs children.  I'm pretty much done with my portion of the writing so I can focus on my next project for the month of August. Fiction lovers, this is for you. It's time for me to get deep down into my writing cave and only come out when I have a proposal in hand for my next historical fiction series. The topic is something I've been...
