Pre-order Wedded to War: 10th Anniversary Edition!

Wed, 2025-07-30 08:12 -- Jocelyn Green

Based on your feedback from earlier this year--along with my own preference--I am officially re-releasing my Heroines behind the Lines Civil War series! This series was originally published by Moody Publishers, and though each book won an award of some kind, they went out of print a while ago. Now I have the rights back to the stories. These are the novels titled Wedded to WarWidow of GettysburgYankee in Atlantaand Spy of Richmond. I poured my heart into these books, and they represent years of research, but most importantly, they were all inspired by real women's very real work during the Civil War. For this reason alone, they deserve to still be available to readers.

Wedded to War 10th Anniverary Edition releases September 2! Pre-order now available here.

Some have asked why I'm updating the covers. That's because while I have the rights to use the text, I do not have the rights to use those original covers. But that's OK--I adore the new version of Wedded to War and I can't wait to see the rest. Ready to see for yourself?

Here's what I love about this version:

  • This girl is working. No hoops under that skirt--they weren't allowed for nurses. And see that bag in her hand? She's got patients to tend, so we best let her get on with it.
  • It's set on the Virginia Peninsula, complete with a hospital tent on shore and a hospital transport ship on the river. It's small, but it's there, and it represents a big part of the story.
  • That lovely dynamic sky. Oh, mama. I love the dramatic clouds, and also the sun breaking through like a total metaphor.

As for the content, I didn't change a whole lot. I just gave it a line edit, which means I tightened up the writing where it needed it, and I did adjust the ending a little, and I'm much happier with how it lands now.

Here is the book blurb:

When war erupted, she traded a life of privilege for a life of significance.

When the Civil War shatters the genteel world of New York society, Charlotte Waverly dares to step beyond the drawing room and enter the chaos of war. As one of America’s first professional female nurses, and with a suitor who believes the work is beneath her, she's combatting more than just the rebellion.

Across the city but a world away, Irish immigrant Ruby O’Flannery is plunged into hardship when her husband enlists with the Union army. Her struggle to survive leads her on a rocky path that will intertwine with Charlotte's. As their lives converge, they’ll uncover an unexpected bond forged in struggle, sacrifice, and the shared fight for dignity and purpose.

Though Wedded to War is a work of fiction, the story is inspired by real-life Civil War nurse Georgeanna Woolsey, whose letters and journals offer a thorough look at what pioneering women nurses endured.
