Welcome!

If you are visiting this Web page, you probably already know that I’m an author, freelance writer,  editor, blogger and ocassional speaker (so to speak). You might know my husband Rob is a former Coast Guard officer. Here are some other little pieces of trivia about me:

  • Most of the time, I just answer to “Mommy.”  My children Ethan and Elsa are ages two and five years old, and they get a lot of my attention. Because they need it. And I’m their Mommy.
  • I would rather read about other people, fiction or nonfiction, than write about myself.
  • I would rather write about other people, real or imagined, than about myself. I’m not shy, I just know there are way better stories out there to be told.
  • Our most-protected family tradition is for Rob to make pancakes on Saturday morning and then we parents sit down and watch Rick Steves on PBS since it will be a while since we get back over to Europe. (Or rather, we try really hard to watch it while our kids play loudly on or near us.)
  • I tend to cook in spurts. I either do really well cooking and even make extra meals to stock the freezer, or go for a few weeks at a time without cooking (usually when I’m on a deadline), in which case, we deplete our freezer supply.
  • A house (or apartment) is not my home unless there is at least one red wall in it.
  • I love Mexican food. A lot.
  • I can’t really get into watching sports unless it’s a local high school or college basketball game, or the Olympics. I wish I liked it more, because it seems like such a bonding experience for fans to share team spirit, but I just don’t have it in me.
  • I’ve lived in Washington, D.C., Alaska, Mexico, Austria, and points between. And I think our current little college town of Cedar Falls, Iowa, is one of the best kept secrets of great places to live.

What You’ll Find on the Web site
My bio, books, Web sites, news about my writing ministry, books I recommend, and tips on writing.

What You Won’t Find on the Web site
You won’t find a daily (maybe not even weekly) blog here, for two reasons. First, see bullet point #1, above. Second, I already write for, edit or maintain three other blog/Web sites: www.faithdeployed.com, www.wivesinbloom.com, and www.startmarriageright.com. Any other time I have to write, I really want to be writing books. Maybe once my kids are in school, I will feel compelled to change my policy on this, but for now, I’m trying not to become an overcommitted crazy person. (I’m really trying to avoid gaining enough material to write  a book like How I Neglected My Kids During Their Formative Years.)
