A Liberty Inspired Give-away!

Wed, 2013-05-08 10:47 -- Jocelyn Green

I am so excited to offer today's give-away to one lucky reader! Widow of Gettysburg has officially launched, and I hope that many of you have your copies already in hand. Now, wouldn't you just love to enhance your reading experience? Christy-nominated author and craftista Joanne Bischof has created a handmade rag rug for this give-away package, just like the rag rugs in Liberty Holloway's farmhouse, and I'm contributing two CDs of music: the soundtrack to the Gettysburg movie, as well as the soundtrack to the movie Glory. (Glory tells the story of the 54th Mass. regiment which fought bravely at Fort Wagner a couple weeks after the battle of Gettysburg. One of my characters fought with the 54th. It is a GREAT movie!) I listened to both of these soundtracks as I was writing Widow of Gettysburg, and I can tell you without a doubt, you will LOVE hearing the music in the background while you read! And now imagine sinking your toes into a comfy rag rug--add a glass of lemonade and a slice of rhubarb pie, and you'll be all set for a total sensory experience! ;)

Bonus!

Now, for all you crafty people out there, Joanne has given us a special treat, and made a rag rug video tutorial using this rug as the example! So if you would like to make your own, you totally can. Just watch below. (Even if you aren't interested in the project, take a peek anyway to get to know Joanne, author of Be Still My Soul and Though My Heart Is Torn, a little better. The amazing music in the background was composed and performed by her very own father! How cool is that!?)

Enter the Drawing

Here's how to enter! Take a look at the three quotes below, all of which are taken from Widow of Gettysburg. Now leave a comment telling me which one means the most to you, and why, if you want to share. (If you don't want to say why, just say which is your favorite.) Click on the image to see them larger.

  1. Share this blog post on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or if somehow you have avoided all social media, just send the link to a friend in an email.
  2. Go to my new "Inspiration" photo album on my Facebook author page, and "share" one or more of the photos there. You get one entry for each one you share.
  3. Go to my "Inspiring Faith and Courage" album on Pinterest and "repin" one or more of the pins there. Again, one entry for each repin.
  4. Like my Facebook author page, or tell me that you've already liked it. :)
  5. Send me a photo of you with your copy of Widow of Gettysburg, along with your permission to use it on my FB page and on this Web site. You could email it to me (Jocelyn@jocelyngreen.com) or simply post it on my FB author page.
  6. If you've already read Widow but would still love this package, post a review on Amazon and you'll receive TWO entries! Now, if you haven't read Wedded to War (book 1 in the series) yet but would like to, and own an ereader device, say so in your comment. River North is throwing in a free ebook of Christy Award finalist Wedded to War to one reader who posts a review of Widow. :) I don't always check my reviews at Amazon, so please tell me after you've left a review so I can give you credit! Thanks!

Don't forget to tell me in the comments section if you've done any of these "extras"! Thank you! I will draw a winner on Friday, May 17! Good luck! If you don't win, though, I hope you won't let that stop you from finding a copy on your own. Read about the book and watch the book trailer here.

Weeping has endured for the night, but joy came. I finished the sentence there, because it is final. A solid promise I can rest in straight from the hand of God, who always keeps His promises. "But joy..." Joy is not an emotion, not a feeling that will fluctuate with circumstance. But it is a truth. It is a reality we have in knowing the Lord & His mercies that fail not.

Ooh, preach it Meghan! :) I love it. "But joy." That is enough. What hope we have! Thanks for all your entries!

I "Shared" this giveaway on Facebook!

I shared two pictures on Facebook! {Two entries for moi!}

I like the one about "weeping", because every day is a new day. No matter how bad my day is, tomorrow is a new day.

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Yes, thank goodness, right? :) Thanks for entering the drawing, Darci!

I emailed a fellow Civil War-loving friend a link to this giveaway!

Wow! This is a really unique/creative giveaway! Okay, for the quote -- "Where we think there is wasteland, God will bring new life!" - That one caught my eye right away! Very relevant to the journey my husband have been on the last several months with major ups and downs both personally and professional and now we are finally headed towards a path that looks very bright! :-) Okay, what I have done so far for your life... 1) I shared it on Facebook and Twitter and Pinterest! 2) I shared two of your photos from your Inspiration Album 3) I repinned three of your photos from Pinterest 4) I definitely "liked" your facebook Author page! :-) 5) See the message I left on your facebook author page :-) I purchased the book for my Kindle! Thanks again for this opportunity! :-) Let me know if you would like to be a guest writer on my blog! Joanne Bischof was just there and did a fantastic job! :-)

Submitted by Rhonda on
umm... sorry about the (really funny) typo... I did not mean to put "Okay, what I have done so far for your life…" haha I meant to put for your give-away! Wow ... not sure how that happened.

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
That is a super funny typo. LOL hee hee

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Rhonda, I am so glad to hear that your path looks bright now! I think we appreciate that all the more when our journey has been bumpy and full of twists and turns, don't we? Thank you for all your entries!

"You don't know what you can do until it's required of you". Is my favorite of these. Very fitting as a military wife! Comes up all the time! 1. Shared this blog post on Facebook. 2. Already shared this particular quote on facebook before I saw this giveaway! :) 3. Repined the same quote on pinterest. 4. Already like you on Facebook Thanks for a chance!

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Jessica, it is a great quote, and this particular line of dialogue in the novel was inspired by Gettysburg citizen Sarah Broadhead's line in her diary. You probably already knew that from reading the book. :) And yes, it totally fits for the military wife lifestyle! Thanks for all your entries!

I loved all three quotes, and each at different times in my life has been resoundingly true. For now, I would choose the one that says, "where we think there is wasteland, God will bring new life." I loved how that played out in the book! A perfect reminder that our hope is not in our circumstances, and that God makes all things beautiful in His time. :)

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Oh my, yes, Kimberly, I can see how all three truths would have special meaning for you. New life, beauty from ashes... what would we do with these truths? Thanks for entering the drawing, dear friend!

Submitted by Kimberly on
okay I did 1,2 and 4 ;)

Submitted by Darci M on
Shared 2 pictures, Repinned 2 pins :)

What a wonderful give away> !. My favorite is probably " You don't know what you can do till it is required of you. " I find I am stronger then I think I am when put through ruff times. I have had many. God is so good and brings me through them. I will share this on facebook and twitter. Blessings joeym11@frontier.com

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Hi Diana, so good to see you here. Yes, God gives us what we need, but usually not a moment too soon, right? :) His grace is sufficient. So glad to hear He has brought you through your rough times.

Submitted by Melissa on
I like the middle one. It's very true that most of us think we can't do something unless we're forced to or coerced into it. 1. I've liked your Facebook page. 2. Shared two photos on Facebook from the Inspirations album. 3. Shared this blog on Facebook and Twitter.

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Hi Melissa, yes, I'm sure we can all think of examples from our own lives where this has been the case. This is one of those wonderful universal truths that apply whether it's July 1863 or May 2013, and anywhere around the globe. Thank you for entering the drawing!

Submitted by Lisa Medeiros on
I like the quote that says you don't know what you can do until its required of you... I have found that to be the case often! :) I have liked your facebook page!

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Thanks so much Lisa! I look forward to connecting with you more on the FB page!

Submitted by Linda P on
I like the quote "You don't know what you can do until it's required of you" This is so true - especially in the life of a military wife. I thought 6 month deployments were hard, until I had a 16 month deployment. I survived - so did the kids - and we were better / stonger for it. A lot of people automatically think "I can't do that", well you can if you have to and have God on your side helping you!! Blessings to you!! Linda

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Hi Linda, I remember that that happened to you! Wow! What a testimony that you and your children are better and stronger for it now, on the other side of that trial. Thanks for entering!

Submitted by Amy Boyd on
My favorite of the 3 quotes is "Weeping had endured for a night, but joy came in the morning". It reminds me of Liberty's choice to move on "forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead" (Phil 3:13) "for we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who are called according to his good purpose." (Romans 8:28) I am thoroughly enjoying this book. I have not read the first one yet, but I'm borrowing it this week from your friend Kimberly!

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Hi Amy, that is wonderful! Thanks so much for entering this drawing. And I updated the ways to get extra entries, SO if you finish Widow and post a review on Amazon before May 17, that will earn you two more entries!

Submitted by Barbara Thompson on
I like "You don't know what you can do until it's required of you". I've been faced with challenges that I never dreamed would happen. I've found with God's strength and courage that I could make it through! Also, I have liked you on Facebook. Thank you for the chance to win the contest.

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Hi Barbara, I'm so glad to hear God's strength and courage has seen you through some dark places. Thank you for entering the drawing!

Where we think there is a wasteland. God will bring New Life. In so many areas of my life this has applied. So often I think I am going through things that are difficult and God brings so much good from those experiences. This also speaks to me as we walked through infertility and into adoption. New Beautiful life!

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Wow Chantelle, the illustration of going from infertility to adoption is a powerful one for this concept of God bringing new life! Thank you so much for sharing that, and for entering the drawing.

My favorite quote from above has to be "You don’t know what you can do until it’s required of you.” So true! No one knows their strength until they are faced with an almost impossible challenge, and it is then that one finds the strength to succeed! Shared this blog post on Facebook & Pinterest, also shared some Inspiration photos my Facebook & re-pinned also! And I have been a Facebook fan of your author page for quite some time! :) And my copy of Widow of Gettysburg, is on my Kindle, so I don't think it will have as much impact in photo-form (haha) Also, just a personal note: THANK YOU for the tutorial!! Can't wait to try this! :)

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Crystal, yes I do recognize your name! It's so fun to see you here, and I'm totally delighted that you enjoyed the video tutorial! Wasn't that fun? I loved the music, too. Thanks for entering the drawing!

You don't know what you can do until it's required of you!!! Sometimes I feel like I can't really do anything, but I know that when God needs me and requires me to do something, then I will be able to do it because He will equip me!!!

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Marissa, you are absolutely right. In our own strength, we may be weak, but that's the key-when it's God's strength and ability working in and through us, He gets the glory, and that is just how it should be. He equips us for the task. Thank you for entering the drawing!

"Where we think there is wasteland, God will bring new life." God brought life back into my marriage, and helped me pull together after a nervous breakdown. God is very, very good. ANd I am so very blessed. :)

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Lisa, I am SO glad to hear God breathed new life into your marriage and helped you recover from your nervous breakdown! I am sure you felt like you were living in a wasteland at times with no relief in sight. What a great testimony that God pulled you through. Thanks for sharing, and for entering the drawing!

You Don't Know What You Can Do Until It is Required of You quote means more to me because I don't have much confidence in myself sometimes. When I'm pushed to do it, I realize all things are possible with God. I have like your author page. Great giveaway!!

Submitted by Jocelyn Green on
Amy, yes! I think that realizing we need God's help keeps us humble. Our confidence should be in his power, not ours. Sounds like you've got this concept down! :) Thanks for entering the drawing!
