Civil War historical fiction series contracted!

Sat, 2011-04-16 14:55 -- Jocelyn Green
I admit I have been a little quiet on the blog lately--now I can finally tell you why. I have just signed a four-book deal with Moody Publishers for a historical fiction series set in the Civil War! Each of these four books are inspired by women who actually lived, who I discovered while doing research for Stories of Faith and Courage from the Home Front. The first book, Narrow Passages, focuses on the work of female nurses (during a time when that was revolutionary) aboard the hospital transport ships in Virginia during the summer of 1862. I’ll share more with you later– but it’s due to release next spring, to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the events which occur in the book. It will be a novel, not a biography, but will have plenty of interesting (and accurate) historical details. So if you don’t hear from me on the blog for a while, know that it’s not because I’m not writing. I’m just writing something else!

Two new books contracted!

Tue, 2011-01-11 17:19 -- Jocelyn Green
Last night I experienced a first. A day of very unsuccessful potty-training with my two-year-old son was made a whole lot sweeter when I brought the mail in and found not one but TWO book contracts for new books! Moody Publishers will be releasing Faith Deployed . . . Again in August 2011, and AMG Publishers will be releasing Battlefields & Blessings: Stories of Faith and Courage from the Home Front some time after that (not sure when yet). Faith Deployed . . . Again is a sequel to my first book Faith Deployed: Daily Encouragement for Military Wives, and I am again relying on the talents of more than a dozen other contributing writers from every branch of service. The Battlefields & Blessings book will be the sixthe book in that series, and will be co-authored with Karen Whiting. (I co-authored the Iraq/Afghanistan volume as well, which released in November 2009.)

Books win two more medals

Mon, 2010-09-20 16:20 -- Jocelyn Green
I just learned this afternoon that my book have both placed in the inspirational category of the 2010 Branson Stars and Flags Book Awards! Battlefields & Blessings: Stories of Faith and Courage from the War in Iraq & Afghanistan won second place, and Faith Deployed: Daily  Encouragement for Military  Wives took third. This is icing on the cake after learning that the Battlefields & Blessings book won the gold medal from the Military Writers Society of America this year, and Faith Deployed won the bronze (spiritual category for both of them). Credit also goes to my co-authors for Battlefields & Blessings, John Croushorn and Jane Hampton Cook, as well as the 14 other ladies who contributed to Faith Deployed. Congrats to all of you!

Books win national awards

Mon, 2010-08-02 16:21 -- Jocelyn Green
Last week I was happy to learn that both of my books, Faith Deployed: Daily Encouragement for Military Wives, and Battlefields & Blessings: Stories of Faith and Courage from the War in Iraq & Afghanistan, were nominated for a national award in the spiritual/religious category of the Military Writers Society of America contest. Well guess what? Faith Deployed won the Bronze Medal, and Battlefields & Blessings won the Gold Medal! I will be accepting the awards at the society’s annual conference in Pittsburgh in early October. Neither of my books were written alone- check out all the ladies who contributed to Faith Deployed here, and read about my two Battlefields & Blessings co-authors, Jane Hampton Cook and John Croushorn, here. Without these 16 other people, and without the nearly 100 people in the military community who shared their personal stories, these books would not have been possible. I am so grateful that others are officially recognizing the amazing stories of all the faithful individuals represented in both of my books. These stories have the power to change lives. I, for one, am a different person for having written them. I pray that each person who reads them will be changed, for the better, as well. When you meet the men, women and children within the pages of the books, you will also meet the God they serve. You can’t help but be inspired.
